Thank you Joey; I was looking at the diagram provided within the forum today of the bladder and it’s layers and did not know about the lamina propria layer. I hope that was the reason for stopping the TURP where he did, I’m pretty sure he would also not be able to cut much deeper than that seeing I don’t have a muscular layer within the hernia. I went to the US to get a CT scan as I wanted the surgery sooner than later and I was not originally booked until July. I groan every time I hear you will have to wait, guess I’m not really good at waiting. I am hoping that this will be the end of the cancer and the pain while voiding will go away but I guess it has only been 15 days maybe my getting active again has stirred the surgical site and it will go away soon.
    Stay Well.

Hello and thank you for your comments and advice, I have not received relief from pain while voiding yet. I do think it may be because of difficulties I have had while voiding for many years now due to a rupture of my urethra. I have had difficulty urinating for years now not being able to have a clear good stream of urine while voiding. I was diagnosed as having a bladder hernia during my scope with a tumor at the top neck of a wide open 18mm hernia and it makes a little sense to me reading somewhere that for people with bladder hernias there may be a site that urine continually aggravates and could cause tumors. I was always told my problem was an enlarged prostrate but I had a CT scan a few weeks back and my prostrate and everything else appears normal except the badder hernia and a 2gram tumor that has since been removed. Maybe I should not be jumping around on this forum but I have had some good news and bad. I have moved onto the non-muscle invasion site now as I consider this good news. If you can help or we may have some things in common and would like to follow my progress through bladder cancer and results please join me there. Stay Well.

I have been having blood in my urine ever since I left the hospital and today I checked my mail and I have been booked for a cystoscopy on May the 10th. I guess that means that there will be no follow up care with explanations in how the surgery went or what the next step will be unless I talk very quickly during the cystoscopy. Whatever happened to follow ups and consults before and after procedures. I live in Edmonton is this normally how they treat us patients. I understand that the Urologists are grouped together here and are pretty much doing their own thing. Maybe this means that I cannot go for a second opinion or get another doctor unless I want to be put on another long waiting list. Does anybody know if their are Urologists here that have a private practice with a good reputation as a surgeon that I might try to get in touch with.

I’m very sorry if I’m venting more than asking for direction. I phoned the number they gave me for home care and the nurse I was talking with is pretty much useless to me. I don’t think she understands english very well and after talking with her about the hematuria and the cramping while trying to void. Her advise to me was if it keeps up or gets worst I should go to the ER. I am a retired Paramedic I can certainly understand the reason for this but I want to talk to the surgeon and find out if he expected my outcome to be like this when he sent me home; not wait 6-8 hours in the ER so they can write a note to the surgeon that I had been there.
