    Hi Lynn,

I’m also going to the Civic. I will have my 3rd year anniversary this November with a diagnosis of T1HG. In November I will have a cysto and 3 more BCG treatments. The first year after finding out I had Bladder cancer was very surreal. Life goes on an we adapt to challenges that we all have.

The Civic has been great. The Urologist, nursing staff and reception personnel all have provided great care and have a good understanding of how to put you at ease and get you through whatever procedure you are having.

Best of luck with your procedures.

    Cheers

    Hello MC

Great news MC. I also had a red spot and turned out to be negative. Have a great time in Florida. I have been in Florida for the past month but will be returning on Nov 2nd for a cysto followed by 3 BCG treatments if I get an all clear. We hope to return to Florida soon after the 3rd BCG.

    All the best.

    Hi Jr,

Here is my BCG journey so far.

    1st one I didn’t have any reactions.
2nd I definitely new something was happening.
3rd, 4th and 5th more of a reaction joint pain, flu like symptoms and fatigue.
6th didn’t feel great but passed like the others did in 48 hours.

All in all the side effects were bearable but we all react differently. Hope yours will be as good as mine. Procedure is about 15 minutes. Make sure you sit to pee. You may have a clot or a small amount of blood when urinating this is normal. Make sure you wipe of any urine you may get on your skin as it stings.

The next 3 BCG’S (7,8,&9) I felt more fatigued but after that the BCG’S were much better.

I take 2 Tylenol 1 hour before the BCG. 20 minutes before the 2 hours are up I drink 250 mls of water at the 2 hour mark I drink another 250 mls.

I try and drink a minimum of 2500 to 3500 mls of water after that and take Tylenol again if needed.

I am now coming up to my 3rd anniversary this November. My last BCG in May was one of the worst with fatigue lasting for nearly a month. My next BCG is this November after that I will start BCG yearly.

This forum has some excellent information and has very helpful information from many individuals. I wish you all the best with your journey hopefully in 18 months you are at the same point that I am.

    Cheers

    Hi MC,

Glad to hear your 2nd TURBT went well. The eight weeks until your BCG is something I think you should discuss directly with your Urologist. My first BCG was just about six weeks after my 2nd TURBT and was due to my slow bladder recovery.

    Hi Michael,

Welcome to the Bladder Cancer Forum.  I am a 67 year old male with Bladder Cancer and live in Kanata. I was first diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago with T1HG.  I started with large amounts of blood in my urine after that I had an ultrasound and that showed a 2.5 mm tumor.

This was followed by a TURBT which the pathology report confirmed that I had NMIBC and the classification was T1HG. Please make sure you request a copy of the pathology report at your next appointment.  Most Urologist will give it out without any questions.  The next TURBT was about 8 weeks later which I consider as the most important one as the Urologist scraps the bladder wall and removes as much of any remain tumor and takes another sample for cytology. After that a protocol will be set out for your treatment based on your diagnosis.

When I was first diagnosed fear was definitely one of the emotions I had. Once the diagnosis was made the fear was much less and life started to get back to normal.  I went through BCG treatments for 2 years with a cysto every 3 months followed by BCG treatments for once a week for 3 weeks the initial treatment was once a week for 6 weeks. We all react differently to treatments but I know other cancer treatments are far more side effects than BCG have.
I suggest you keep your loved ones and friends very close as my wife was a great help in getting us through all of this.

I also believe now if you are going to get cancer Bladder cancer is one of the best you can have.  I now have appointments every 6 months a cysto on May 24th followed by 3 weeks of BCG. So life is good I still have fear of a reoccurrence but you will find the fear, worry and anxiety  slowly decreases as time goes on.

You will find a great deal of information on this forum which will be very helpful.  I wish you all the best in your start of your Bladder Cancer  journey. If I can help in any way please send me a message.

    Cheers

    Hi Greg,

I was 65 when I had my first TURBT. First one was to remove a 2.5 cm tumor. I was released the same day and it took a week to recover. The second TURBT was 3 months later. I was released the same day and it told a week to recover.

    Best of Luck
