ParticipantGood Afternoon all!
My name Is Edward (Ed or Eddie to most), I’m 39 years old and yes, I have bladder cancer.
I just experienced my first cystoscopy this past Thursday, and I have to admit that it wasn’t as horrible an experience as I had expected. The hospital staff were incredibly nice and we spent a good amount of time throwing jokes back and forth (this despite certain appendages being in a strangers hands). Don’t get me wrong, I much rather spend the day mowing the lawn or doing dishes, but considering…quite painless.
This of course changes a little after its all done and you go for your first “voiding” after the freezing wears off. It was at this point that I realized I missed a potential career in opera. All told, definitely much less than I expected thankfully.
So now I wait for a booking to have a TURBT to remove my 2.7cm stowaway. Little bugger! And to determine whether he is going to be stubborn or not for the coming weeks/months…etc?
I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you that are on here and the writing you have posted. It has been of great help and strangely comforting, though I have to say I wish none of this existed for any of use.
Please feel free to drop me a line if you up for a chat, I am quite animated and always enjoy chatting with new people.
Sending my best to everyone!!!
Ed

ParticipantHello Ed. Welcome to the soprano section of the opera!
Let’s hope your tumour is low grade and low stage. But cancer is serious no matter what stage and grade. I trust you are in experienced hands (and I mean that in only the best way) and that your doc is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled. Major cancer centres are the way to go for sure.
The TURBT is uneventful since you are asleep. Sometimes when you awaken you will be catheterized and a noxious chemotherapy drug (Mitomycin C) will be in your bladder, clamped and sealed until two hours has passed. And that soprano voice will perhaps get another octave higher upon first urination. But don’t worry. This too shall pass!!!
Never miss a scheduled urologist appointment – not ever. It may seem onerous, but it might just save your life and your bladder since this cancer has a very high recurrence rate. Hopefully you’ll be one of the fortunate ones who only has the one occurrence. Even then do not miss the follow-up appointments.
All the best. Keep in touch.

ParticipantThanks very much Greg for the welcome and the heads up. I’ve conducted a lot of research over the weeks and my Doctor has given me the details on what to expect. I’m looking forward to this obviously being resolved quickly and hoping for a quick turn around. I will definitely not miss any appointments and appreciate your reply! Hope all is well with you!

KeymasterHi Eddie
Sorry you have been diagnosed with bladder cancer. Greg has given you some great advice. I recommend you get a copy of your pathology report after your upcoming surgery. The report will give the stage and grade of the tumor which will be used by your doctor as a guideline for treatment.
Hoping it is non invasive low grade.
Please keep us posted.
All the best,

ParticipantAppendages in strange hands? I don;t see a thing wrong with that. I guess your bladder like to grow things. Not quite like a garden but one can pretend. I do wish you luck and of course welcome you to BCC. My best and my prayers to you. Hope it’s a simple thing but that snot does need to come out. Might be bigger than a snot but same principle, sort of. Maybe not.
