I have just been diagnosed with Urothelial Carcinoma, invasive, high grade. It has yet to be determined if it is muscle invasive. I live in the Kitchener/Waterloo region so I guess I will be referred to Grand River Hospital.  I found out about the Bladder Tumour Multidisciplinary Cystoscopy Clinic at Toronto General and am wondering if it’s the best place to go to? Is it worth the drive to Toronto or should I just stay local?

    Hi hrudy

The is a decision that many of us have had to make. I did get a 2nd opinion with a top Urologist at Toronto general in 2008. The Urologist in Toronto confirmed my diagnosis and treatment plan. But unlike you my diagnosis was non-muscle invasive low-mid grade multiple tumors.

You are not far from 2 major cancer centers in London and Hamilton as  options to Toronto. Both have top bladder cancer specialists as does Toronto.

    Keep us posted

    Hi hrudy,

I agree with Jack’s response.  BTW, I live in Hamilton and got treated here.  We have both St. Joe’s Hospital and Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton.

    My best,

Hi Hrudy, I also live in KW and found the treatment here good. As my bladder cancer progressed I was referred to Hamilton though.

If I were doing it all over I would rather have started in Hamilton to avoid duplicating tests. PM me if you want to talk.

    Mike
