Participantthis is all new to me. unfortunately i have an ultrasound report that says
“Note is made of a 1.4 x 0.9 x 1.5 cm non-mobile vascular echogenic lesion
along the posterior left bladder base corresponding to the small bladder
lesion noted on the previous CT”and
“IMPRESSION:
1. A small bladder tumor corresponds to the finding on the recent
hematuria protocol CT.”the hematuria was caused by a kidney stone sailing (slowly) down the right side, (painful).
i freaked out and pestered until i got a CT which triggered the ultrasound and found or confirmed a tumor. 3 or 4 times since it has been found, there has been barely visible amount of blood in urine. i believe it is due to a large kidney stone bouncing around the bladder.
my question is, how is the size of this tumor compared to others?. is this considered large?
sorry to bother. nerves completely wracked as this was found completely by accident.
appreciate any info.

ParticipantI don’t think the size is of great importance. Whether the tumour is cancerous, what grade it is and the extent it has penetrated into the bladder wall is the information you need. The best and fastest way to get the info is with the TURB you have scheduled. Pathology results should be available a week or so later and then you will know what you are dealing with.
It is understandable that you have anxiety over this. If you can spend time until then doing things you enjoy and that occupy your mind it will help make the time pass faster. No matter what the pathology result, there is every possibility of a good outcome.
Good luck and let us know how things go.

ParticipantHi Rob
I was diagnosed with bladder cancer 2 yrs ago and have had 2 turbts and am doing well. I understand the fear and anxiety as I had my share. That does settle down over time. Please don’t over analyze! Easier said than done, but try to be positive. First off there is a good chance it is benign. If it turns out to be cancerous, most are low grade which can be very easy to treat with great success. Even the not as common high grade are also having excellent results as you can see by the good folks on this site that have had that. My thoughts and prayers are with you brother.
Best Regards
Greg

Participanti want to thank you for your replies. they do quite a bit for someone who already has anxiety problems. they are planning on keeping me overnight and running a cbi set up all night in order to prevent clots from forming.
i have already planned to pester the doctor for follow up ultrasounds.
will drop in when i get out to let on how it was and went.
thx again for the replies

Participantsorry to take over a week to get back.
when i woke up, incredibly sore ( the had to “stretch” my urethra)with a very large and semi rigid catheter in me i was surprised. eventually the surgeon came by and told me it was a small tumor and that ti was gone now. (to pathology i assume).
then i asked him ” had the tumor penetrated or even begun to penetrate the bladder wall”. he said” i didnt look so” or”it didnt look like it”. very skilled and admired man who has been doing this for years. i take that with hope and some relief even though i know ti still has to go to pathology and get “official” results.
it was i week ago today. there was some bleeding and one incredibly sore urethra (stretched). however, i was unnerved last night by the passing of 2 very small clots with very little blood. this morning, the water was red with a few more clots (2 or 3 grains of rice long ((like a small piece of spaghetti))and maybe a half grain wide). after that only the most minor amount of blood at the end of the “emptying”. there were zero clots before last night.
has anyone heard of this?. someone mentioned that it was similar to a scab coming off inside somewhere (either the site where the tumor was or the stretched urethra). there has been no further bleeding and i am watching like a hawk.
thx for tolerating a post like this.

A few clots after surgery is normal. It should clear up shortly. I’m not sure about the sore urethra though. If either continues check with your doctor.

KeymasterHi Rob
I had a few clots (scabs) and a bit of blood after my turbts. As Stephen says, seems very normal.
Good luck on the pathology results and I recommend you get a copy of the report.

Participantthe only other effect has been coming more frequently over the last few days. urination. doctor said to “pee frequently” and i have started that in spades. every 45 min to an hour during the day. reason i ask is because (i am type 2 diabetic well controlled) and i take a diuretic for blood pressure, so i know my “pee habits”. someone else told me that frequent urination is common a week or so after turbt, i thought i would verify here. i can go 3 to 4 hours overnight.
sorry for all these questions. results are back, but i cant see them until the surgeon does.

KeymasterHi Rob
Do not be sorry for your questions, that is why we are here. My urination times after my 1st turbt were about 1-2 hours during the day and around 3 hours during sleep times. This went on for about 3-4 weeks in my case.
Hope you get your pathology results soon.
All the best,

Participantthx for that. the timing seems to be lengthening to around an hour and a half. as for path results, i am going to get a copy right now so i know what to ask at the appointment next week.

Participantwell, the results are in
A.) Urinary Bladder “superficial bladder tumor”, Transurethral Resection:
non invasive papillary urothelial carcinoma, high grade
B.)Urinary Bladder”deep Bladder Tumor”, transurethral resection:
Focal Cauterized Papillary Urothelial carcinoma
unremarkable muscularis propria is sampled.
my take on the above is
A.) high grade yes, but non invasive says it hasnt even begun to penetrate the bladder wall yet. its size (1.9 x 0.8 x 0.5 cm) is on the small size. i believe it can successfully be treated.
B.) “deep bladder tumor” was just the label on the specimen jar. its size (1.6 x 0.6 x 0.5 cm) is smaller than the first one. the muscularis propria is unremarkable, so in good shape.
i believe they are both treatable with a good chance of success. what i have are 2 small papillary (mushroom shaped) that were attached to the wall of my bladder without penetrating the muscle layer.
any opinions? still have to discuss the results with the doctor, but i am holding out hope that these will be easy to treat.
