ParticipantI had a tumor removed which the biopsy said was non-invasive but high grade. I subsequently had six treatments of BCG, one each week. After a few weeks from finishing the treatments I had another cystoscopy and the biopsy indicated I had non-invasive and high grade without any impact on the cancer. I was suggested to have another six treatments of BCG. If the first was not effective, can the second be. Anyone have a similar experience? NOW WHAT!!!

KeymasterHi RP
I had a recurrence after the initial 6 BCG treatments. Then I had another 6 treatments and 1 more recurrence. Then we tried 1 instillation of mitomycin C after the 3rd turbt and another 6 BCG treatments. Then an All Clear. Then another 12 monthly BCG treatments. Been cancer free now over 5 years.
I recommend since you have high grade noninvasive, you may seek a 2nd opinion. We can assist you in arranging.
All the best,

ParticipantHi RP:
Not an unfamiliar story, but many who go this route have good success so stick with it.
Jack’s offer of a second opinion at a major cancer centre is a great one. Take him up on the assistance.

ParticipantHi Greg!
Thanks for your response. Much appreciated. I spoke to Jack and the Urologist I have is the one he would recommend.
Peace!

ParticipantHello RP:
Please check out the web site for Johns Hopkins. My husband’s slides were sent there for 2nd opinion ($250) on pathology. The 2nd opinion confirmed the 1st opinion and added some detail.
There is also a system for 2nd opinion on treatments, based on medical reports and files ($550 was quoted at one point, but you would have to check). The specialists in charge of urology and pathology (Dr. Schoenberg, and Dr. Epstein) are apparently extremely eminent.
As a result of the 2nd opinion, RC and BCG were taken off the list for him and he was referred to a medical oncologist and is now on chemo. This is probably the right choice for him and may not be relevant for you.
But I think more people should know it is relatively inexpensive, and very fast, to get a second opinion and there is no need to go in person to the USA.
Wishing you all the best,
