ParticipantHappy new year, everyone. My brother had neobladder surgery one year ago. Besides nighttime incontinence, his main problem is loose bowels and cramps.
He is consistently taking imodium especially when he has to be out for over a few hours without a sure bathroom in sight.Does anybody else have these problems ? Advice, please. I was thinking that he need to see a gastroenterologist.

ParticipantThe gastroenterologist is the way I would go (no pun intended). Most of us with neos have issues with bowels of some description I think, but not like that for me. Others will give their horror stories I’m sure.
It is a continuous learning experience. I’m still trying to sort out what works and doesn’t work for me re diet. I have diabetes and Celiac Disease as well so it is an interesting bouquet of dew worms!

ParticipantJoanne, this discussion from the American Bladder Cancer Society might be helpful.

ParticipantThanks Greg. I did look at the American site.
Seems like this is a common complaint and certain foods may trigger the bowels.I also heard about something interesting…… Condom catheters!
Have you tried this?January 16, 2013 at 4:22 am #14773Greg
ParticipantNot personally. I used to work as an orderly years ago in extended care facilities in Ontario and BC and they were used pretty routinely there – that was 35 years ago. They’ve been around in hospital settings for a long time. They do leak, fall off, constrict, etc depending on…well, I’ll leave that to your imagination!

ParticipantCondom catheters, as Greg said, are common. In fact many long distance truck drivers use them so they don;t have to take time to stop and pee. I have never used one but they do make sense. I have no idea what colors they come in though.

Participanthi my name is Adrian, I have a Neo bladder, surgery was in September. I am incontinent which no one warned me about beforehand.I have just started to use condom catheters( trying different makes etc.) they are great but I am concerned that by using one I am not using my pelvic floor muscles as much to help with becoming continent again. Can anyone out there give me any idea how long I can expect to be incontinent.I have heard anywhere between 3 months and 1 year.Has anyone used a condom catheter over a long period of time? and if so, did it hinder the muscles/ brain connection? Almost forgot, I am using a condom catheter basically all day and night.
