Malcolm had his appointment yesterday. The doc concluded that procedures wee not the route to follow, but to return to his pain medication regime.

It was noted that Malcolm is not on maximum dose of Lyrica – so it was upped to 600 mg daily, from his current 450 mg.

A new medication was added, to be used as needed, up to 4x per day. (Nucynta IR)

He will increase the Lyrica gradually to full dose, climatizing to its effects; then start the new med. Here’s hoping this will start to work and improve quality of life through decreased pain.

Hi Ieva. I’m sorry to hear that Malcolm couldn’t have the new nerve block for his pain. But it looks like there is hope with the Lyrica increase & the new med. Ongoing pain is hard on the patient and hard to watch, but the quality of life is the ultimate goal, so here’s hoping this combination works !

Ieva you have so much courage … thank you for the detailed description of Malcolm’s actual bladder surgery & recovery regime. Quite a bit to absorb but I can do it. Will read everything over a few times. Loved the food description & hiding nutritional food in smoothies, soups, etc. Arn thinks there are only 2 vegetables in the world – potatoes and peas. Someone is going to get a new diet. And lots of fluid. And gas. Ha ha ha.

Take care, thinking of you, big hug and prayers

Hi Leva. That’s disappointing. But it sounds like the medication is the way to go. I know that with my MS I avoided pain meds as long as I could, probably too long. So I had to step up to Morphine. I guess we just have to do the most sensible thing and accept it. Easier said than done though. Please give Malcolm my best regards. I keep you both in my prayers.

Malcolm has just passed the 1st month of introducing the new medication regime. We quickly discovered that the intro needed to be quite gradual…”n of 1 study” style, so impacts, benefits could be clearly monitored, and best to be able to report at the 3 month follow up. A few nuisance side effects to learn to deal with….always balancing against…is the pain decreased….moving forward!

On a positive note, we have some travel plans..Calgary to visit Malcolm’s uncle who is declining, but approaching his 100th birthday.

Hi Ieva. It’s good to hear that the new medications are starting to work consistently at times. It seems to be a long, slow process for all bladder issues. Good idea to monitor everything … you come up with the greatest ideas ! Enjoy the trip to Calgary … nice break for a few days.

    Hi Ieva!

Glad to hear some good news about Malcolm. Enjoy your trip to Calgary. It is beautiful here, right now. Leaves are in full colour albeit not as bright as down east but still beautiful. Have a good one.
