Hi, my name is Sam. I had TURBT on Sept 13 since then, my urogolist told me that cancer has gotten into my blader muscle. I just did a bone scan on Tuesday and waiting for the result. My urologist said that if no cancer in my bone then he is going to remove my bladder, prostate, etc. If cancer has gotten into my bone then there will be different treatment. I am hoping for the best.

Hi Sam: I am sorry for your diagnosis and do hope your bone scan is ok. It is good you have found this site, there are many who can help you thru this. I have had a radical cystectomy and am doing very well. I am sure the males on this site will share with you and help you with anything you want to know. Will you be going to a major cancer centre like in Toronto and has the doctor discussed different types of diversions? It is a lot to deal with and we are here to help.

    Hello Sam:
Sorry to meet you here on this site. If in fact the doctor decides on a radical cystectomy you can live a very active and quite normal life afterwards. I had my RC 22 months ago and am healthy and active now. The surgery is serious and complex so you want to ensure your surgeon does a lot of these often and is associated with a major cancer centre, as Sandra has said. Get a copy of your paathology report from your urologist so that you know exactly what you are dealing with. Here’s hoping for a clear bone scan result. All the best. Keep us posted.

    Thanks Sandra and Greg:
Its good to know that I can still live active and normal after RC. I will certainly let you guys know about the bone scan result once I find out and what next. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again.

Hi Sam, sorry we have to meet this way. My cancer was also muscle invasive and I had my bladder removed last year. As Greg said, the surgery is very complicated and recovery takes a while, but once you are through all that, you can go back to living a normal life with some adjustments. Sandra made a good point about understanding your options for urinary diversions. We, on this site have them all, so we can help you with understanding what living with each type of diversion is really like. I hope you get good news from the bone scan. Keep us posted.

Hi Sam. I’m glad you joined us. Sure wish you didn’t have BC though. I will keep you in my prayers for a good outcome on your scan. If the cancer has gotten into the bladder muscle the removal of it is the best approach. As others have said, many people live basically the same life style they did before. I have not had the surgery but I have gained a lot of knowledge about it and the different procedures and for sure this is a tough one. But we are here for you. Good luck to you.

Hi Sam: I am so happy you have found the BCC forum. Although I still have my bladder there are several very amazing members (you have heard from a few) who will share their knowledge and experiences. I wish you all the best and hope for a clear bone scan.

Hi, my bone scan is clean. My urogolist is going to schedule MRI to be sure eventhough my CT is clean. He will also schedule RC between Nov and Dec. Hopefully, everything will work out. Thanks.
