It looks like I’m in the right place. During the past 5 1/2 years, I have had 5 bladder tumors removed from the inside of my bladder along with numerous cystoscopy check-ups every 3 months (never did make it to every 6 months) and 1 six week BCG session last year in the spring (and an operation 5 months later…very disappointing)

Yesterday I had an appointment with my urologist for the results of my operation last month…for the first time the tumor they removed was a high grade type…he wants to do another BCG session to which I agreed even though I don’t have much faith in it…

I am 78 years of age, married to my 2nd wife Maribeth, for 33 years who is in fairly good health except for the usual aches and pains from aging…My health has been no hell the past few years…I now walk with a cane and use an electric scooter to get around our village and shoreline…

Besides bladder cancer I also suffer from a bad back and leg problems, hypertension, diabetes and due to a mini stroke I had a pacemaker inserted for my heart…

This getting old isn’t for sissies…

    Beans,

Getting old is not for sissies for sure, same with getting bladder cancer! Welcome to this site, but sorry to hear about your current condition. You might want to ask your doctor for the pathology report (from your last operation), that way you would have the type, stage and grade of your cancer in writing handy for future reference. Also, I’m not sure where your urologist or specialists are located, but you may want to seek out a second opinion at a major urology cancer center. This cancer has a way of keep coming back and from the information I’ve read, BCG treatments alone may or may not work when the cancer is high grade, best to speak to your specialists about this.

Best of luck with your future treatments and keep us posted.

    Hi Beans

Welcome to the forum, wish we had met under different circumstances. I was diagnosed in 2005, had a couple of small recurrences during BCG treatments, but finally the BCG did the job and I have been cancer free since 2007. Don’t give up hope, if the BCG can work for me, hopefully the treatments will work for you too.
    All the best,
    Jack

I’m only heading into my late fifties so am a spring chicken compared to you but yeah, I’ve had my share of challenges as well and getting older ain’t for the faint of heart. I don’t think it’s fair after a lifetime of hard work, this is how it ends… anyhow that is my grouse for the day. It’s not easy but I try to focus on the positive. You’re a real trooper from the sounds of it. Take care and keep on keeping on.

Hang in there Beans. I’ve had recurrences too and BCG seems to be helping. Growing old with health issues is certainly no picnic. But you know, every time when I think how tough I have it, I think of others who are less fortunate. I’m 15 yrs younger and my goal is to reach where you are in life.

Stay focus on the positives…hell the negatives will just make you sick…:) 🙂 lol

    Be well Beans!
