My count has dropped below 2. I guess that this is to be expected as a possible side effect of chemo, but are there any tips out there that might help the good guys (white blood cells) recover and grow in their bone marrow nursery? Professionals here have helped me realize that chemo targets fast-growing cells, and unfortunately white blood cells are in this category along with the bad guys. I am doing light exercise (daily treadmill for cardio and to promote circulation) and keeping well hydrated. Today’s dose was adjusted to help compensate so that hopefully treatment can stay on schedule. Here are a couple of videos that I was looking at that helped me understand how white blood cells are made and how chemotherapy affects that process.

Update September 21: Count came back up to 2.6 after a week of 15min./day fast walking on treadmill, good hydration, much use of hand sanitizer and light outside activity.

Neupogen is in the $000 per shot, but no coverage for that, but may check into it if no other options. Heard of side effect of bone soreness in some patients. Last chemo was reduced by 15% so hopefully between that, light exercise and extra hydration, my counts will be above the cut-off level again this coming Monday.

This website has some good information as well, regarding “caring” for white cells during chemo.
