ParticipantI normally stay out of the political realm and just go about my business and vote. However, one thing that bothers me is voter apathy. People don’t bother to vote and then sit around and complain. No matter what political stripe you are, exercise your right to vote on the 19th. This is an election that will have major impact on not only our futures but those of our kids as well. If like me, you have millennial kids encourage them to get out and vote as well. It will be a close call no matter which party wins so the more that vote the less chance we will have of a minority and then having to go to the polls again in a year or two.

ParticipantMaysue, you know you can’t say the word political on the forum. It’s illegal. It’s a rule. And it’s not fair because I can;t vote in Canada. Really. I tried it and got arrested and sent to Siberia. Or is that in Russia. Maybe I tried to vote in Russia. Wait, do they vote in Russia? I’m confused. But I am also in Texas. But my feeling is that if people are going to complain about something, they should first be responsible. If you don;t care, don;t complain. ANd if you don;t live in Texas, don;t vote in Canada. Or Russia. I talked to my dogs about this. My dogs vote. Every nite they vote for chicken. I didn’t even know they voted in chicken. No, not chicken the language, chicken the country. I guess it’s the country where they speak chicken. Well, before I get ousted by Jack for insane slandering of chickens I will leave you with this thought… Ahhhh, forgot what it is. Well, everyone has a right to complain. And a responsibility to earn that right. Seriously, that’s what it’s all about I think. earning the right. Don;t be a chicken.

ParticipantOk Ki I’ll weight in on this…I vote Blue-Jays.
Let’s face it, the Blue-Jay is about to be the new Canadian National Symbol replacing the “Maple Leaf”…so, with the Rangers gone and the Hus Astros on the brink (4-2 KC right now)….there’s no one left to challenge the B-J.
Good to see you in your usual great form Ki…

ParticipantHello
Now I can’t resist adding my two cents:Blue Jays just one word: sweet
Election: as a retired CPA, I am so tired of hearing people complaining about how much tax they pay and it is all (yes I will say the evil word) Harper’s fault. So I did an analysis based on fact: we currently pay the lowest tax rates in 50, yes FIFTY, years. I analyzed further (yes, I am a very analytical person) and looked at debt and spending habits of Canadians. Considering the record debt Canadians carry (e.g. on average $20,000 in credit card debt and then there are mortgages, vehicle loans, vacation loans, furniture loans, appliance loans, and on and on with consumer debt), I am of the opinion that the problem is spending habits, not taxes, are keeping Canadians cash poor. Currently, a family of four will pay no tax on the first $30,000 of income.
I quit watching the news shortly after the election was called. Tired of the news media creating the picture they want and basically guiding the voters. Only one company [Sun] didn’t buy into the Liberals and their news channel has been put out of business by the likes of Bell. Sun also wouldn’t go by the scripted, approved questions for interviewing people that all other news media do thus they asked the hard questions that those being interviewed didn’t like. You can even google and get the SUN interview where they asked an unscripted question and the person being interviewed fired back” Heh, you’re not supposed to ask that.” The news media is not neutral when it comes to the political parties and a quick way to tell is to take a good hard look at the pictures they put up during the news: who gets the complimentary picture; who is made to look like a smuck. Also, think about the CTV news ads: they are STORYTELLERS. Excuse me, they are supposed to report the TRUTH and that involves the whole truth which means digging and verifying and scraping your knuckles if need be to get at the truth and to refuse to go by scripted approved questions. How would I know all this stuff? I am also a journalist (mostly national magazines and some newspapers) as a sideline.
One more note about people that hate Alberta and the Oil Guys: 51% of the oil royalties go to the federal government. Yes, federal government gets more than the Alberta government does. Yet, there are those who would love to shut down the oil industry in Alberta. They have no clue how that would hurt ALL of this country. The Alberta NDP government started the process of ruining their province by hitting the oil industry and I anticipate will get even more active on this after the federal election. There is one company that, a couple weeks ago, was ready to start an approved infrastructure project in the oilsands and had all the equipment and most of the employees there already. Alberta NDP government phoned them and told them: No. They cancelled the permits to do it. Hundreds of people instantly unemployed plus thousands unemployed in the supporting industries. FYI: the new Alberta NDP minister in charge of the oil industry used to be an active protester against the oilsands.
I also can’t stand how the parties buy elections by offering all kinds of goodies. Elections are nothing about what is good for the country. Elections are all about power and each party doesn’t care what it takes to get into power as long as they get there. That is what really burns me. So I go looking for the party that is planning to spend the least amount (e.g. will produce the least amount of deficit) to buy votes. At the peak, for every tax dollar us taxpayers had to pay, almost forty cents of it was going to pay the INTEREST on the federal debt (think Trudeau years) and we are STILL paying the debt racked up by the Liberals under Trudeau (Justin’s dad). It isn’t forty cents on the dollar anymore but it is still over twenty cents on the dollar. Yes, Trudeau wasn’t the only one racking up debt but he was the best pro at doing it.
Carrying on about the “one percenters” also burns me: Justin is one of those “one percenters” therefore how in the world can he relate to the middle class; Mulcair has always been a civil servant prior to politics therefore how can he relate to what it is really like to work for a living. Those “one percenters” still pay a huge amount of the tax and, if you add in their corporations on top of the personal tax they pay, they are the ones that pay the vast majority of taxes (small and medium sized corporations pay the most tax and employ the most people). Yes, “one percenters” have their wealth divided between personal and corporate bodies. Also, the NDP are carrying on about how the “one percenters” take their wealth offshore with the blessings of the Conservatives???? Did he not pay attention to the news the last few years? The Conservatives are the ones that finally closed the door on offshore wealth that, by the way, the Liberals left wide open. Legislation was also brought in by the Conservatives that offered rewards to Canadians that reported people who were moving their wealth offshore. The reward information is posted on CRA’s website. What I love about this, the class action suing lawyer, Tony Merchant, got caught on this one last year. He had moved over $2 million offshore. Yes, there are still lawyers in the business of trying to work around the legislation and there are still people who are still willing to risk getting caught moving their money offshore.
Anyway, no political party is going to save us and make everything right. It is a matter of picking the party that will do the least damage and in my mind, that is the party that is doing the least buying of the election.
Okay, I will stop my rant now.
Anyway, hooray for the Blue Jays!

ParticipantWell actually The Rangers are just lying low, playing dead sort of. Just waiting to pounce so beware and they like to eat birds. Houston, well what can you say. It’s Houston. They are in a league all their own, unfortunately. Now don;t start picking on the Dallas Cowboys. They do have the best looking cheer leaders in the universe. Well, that’s the only reason I like to watch the Cowboys anyway.
I,m not sure if talking politics is worse than talking football and baseball or not. They are equally dangerous. But at least sports is not politics. Well, actually it is but at least not political politics. Something like that. Don;t go picking on NASCAR though or I will have to go up there!

ParticipantHello Kiowa
Have you ever watched “Top Gear”. British show. They also wander around the world doing “challenges”. The one for the southern U.S. is absolutely hilarious. Come to think of it, all their “challenge” shows are hilarious. Worth the effort to get a hold of their shows and watch them.
I won’t spoil the fun/surprises on the southern U.S. one.
Take care

ParticipantOK, I decided to vote. I vote for Texas. And the Dallas Cowboys. Who are the Blue Jays? Is that like the Maple Leafs golf team or something?
