My 59th BD is coming up soon. My hubby turned 60 in January. We have been doing a lot of reflective thinking lately. Where did the time go? It seems like yesterday that we got married. We were 22 and 23. The kids arrived one after the other and seemed to go from babies to young men overnight – this is especially true when a teenage boy hits puberty. One of my sons went up two shoe sizes in 2 months.
When I went for my cysto last week my uro wished me a happy birthday since my cysto always happens just before. I told him next year was a milestone birthday, turning 60 to which he replied that after 2-3 more “all clears” I will hit the big milestone with him and can be cut loose if I choose. That poses the other question; How has so much time gone past dealing with BC? I can’t believe that I’m coming up on 8 years clear and that it seems only a short time ago I was dealing with my first diagnosis.
Has anyone figured out how to slow time down? ((((HUGS))))

Cheers

Time won’t slow down. Just hang on tight and don’t miss a thing!
Remember: growing old is not a right; it is a privilege. So honor each birthday and enjoy.
Take care

I think the reason I struggle with the aging thing is because my hubby was forced into early retirement due to the oil crash. That combined with my starting a new line of work almost at the same time created a psychological conundrum for me. Weird sounding I know.
I have a lot of energy and want to be about and doing stuff. Retirement to me is for when you are older and are too ill to work any longer. I do have friends that have retired, some early, and enjoy it immensely. Some enjoy the slower pace and hobbies and volunteer work, others travel a lot. I don’t have a big travel budget and even if I did, I’m not a globetrotter. I like my home base.
I think from being a stay at home parent for many years, I feel like I almost missed out on an opportunity to accomplish something. Yes, raising kids is important but I have wanted to do something for just me. That was hard to do when going full throttle with four very active young sons plus running a day home.
So…I guess that is why I fight the aging thing and want to slow time down. ((((HUGS))))

I would suggest you keep having annual cystoscope. I was clear fo 17 years but my doc wanted me to have annuals anyway. Glad I did!,, after 17 years another cancer appeared and we got on it early thanks to the routine cysto.

I will stay on with my uro not only because of the risk of recurrence but because it is difficult to get in to see specialists in Calgary and should I ever have trouble, I don’t want to have to wait. I really like the uro I have and wouldn’t want to have to start over with someone else.
As for my age, from here on in, I’m 59 and holding. LOL!!
June 3, 2017 at 4:34 pm #21710KIOWAParticipantGood decision. What would you do without me?????
