That would be something to ask at the BCG clinic. Like everything else with BC it varies with each doc. When I did my first 6 week regime in 2008 I had to go for a blood test after the 6 weeks to check for red blood cell count and kidney function. The uro didn’t bother the next time. Calgary uros don’t rely on urine tests very much which I find rather ironic. Go by the way you feel too. IF they don’t order any blood tests etc. and you feel like you have a bladder infection or fatigue lingers long after BCG is finished get checked out. I felt very fatigued and even though I didn’t bother to get checked out (dumb, now that I look back in hindsight) I did go on a natural iron supplement and felt better very quickly. Before doing anything I did check with your doc first to see if that is right for you.
Hi Kimmc!
I, too, live in Calgary.. and have had no labs done. Each one of us is different.. and most often the doctor is different as well (as others have said) Having lab work done is just another safety check and be glad for it 🙂
I had an initial 8 weeks of infusions of BCG. No tests were ordered during that time and I have a very very very thorough and comprehensive uro. Despite that that darn BCG made me sick as a dog it was nothing that would have shown up on labs. I don;t think having BCG requires anything extra unless there are some very unusual symptoms. But this does vary from one uro to the next.
