ParticipantHi Everyone , I am a new born to Bladder Cancer. Born in western Canada 1947. Had one Real job all my life ..Union Iron Worker Building high steel buildings and bridges for 43 years. Wife died June of 2008 and i then retired. Never have really ever been sick or in Hospital all my life…….Two years ago after my yearly medical Doctor told me my sugar was a little high broader line..so gave me drugs to take for that….4 years ago i went to Missouri to meet a Lady Friend and while i was there she became sick….today the doctors tell her some thing attacked her spine and did what it did and then left her body. She walks with a walker today and uses power chair. We Got Married two years this June and have been at work making two homes so we both can keep our benefits from each Country….seacoast Canada our other home. hopefully .Sept of this year i was told i had a tumor inside my bladder after i had a cat scan in Missouri…..so we are back here in Calgary , I have had an operation to remove the tumor and have gone to a follow up meeting with the Doctor that operated…He is sending me to the John Baker Cancer hospital here in Calgary cause of a Concern he has….He told me there are three layers to a bladder and when he was removing it he found the cancer had gone though two and was starting on the third one…that’s what the concern was….. This week i am to hear from the Doctors there at John Baker. I am a Strong Believer it life and that there is a beginning and ending in every thing in this world..

ParticipantHi,
I am glad you reached out to BCC and sorry to hear you have bladder cancer. As you probably know you are not alone…I found out mid 2012 just 2 months after retiring which put me too through a rough patch. I had back to back cysto’s to deal with recurring non-invasive cancer and have been clear for nearly 18 months. The folks on this site are very helpful and will share their journeys too that I am sure will help you deal with whatever comes next.
We are very fortunate to have great medical services around us and it seems to me your doctor is really on top to this with the immediate referral. BBC has a strong support group in Calgary…many I’m sure will read your posting. On this site’s home page there is information on how to contact BCC…if you would like to speak to someone, just ask.
Sending you best wishes and get well prayers…please keep in touch on your progress…
Rick

Welcome to this site. Sounds like you’re getting some good advice and being looked after well by your Doctor out there in Calgary. Bladder removal with diversion is the gold standard treatment once the cancer reaches the outer layer of the bladder. Both chemo and surgery are difficult, but manageable. It may take several months until surgery (if you end up going that route), but by reading your posts it sounds like you have a good attitude and support group going into this difficult period.
I wish you all the best with your prognosis and future treatments.
Regards
Glenn
