    Hi,

I have been dealing with High Grade Papillary Carcinoma and been doing BCG for about a year and half. My high grade cancer has already returned so my oncologist recommends a radical cystectomy at this point(I am an active 49 year old male). After reviewing the options I really thought I wanted the Indiana Pouch option(no bag on the outside) but I am having second thoughts. Unfortunately the Neo Bladder for me is out of the question- I would never be able to insert my own catheter(I have a stricture) so its between the two other options. I am hoping to hear any experiences others have had with the conduit or Indiana Pouch and what there thought process was behind it, particularly males in my age group. Thank you in advance!

    Hi MD271976,

I want to begin by telling you that I personally don’t have experience with either, but what I can share with you, is that the Ileal Conduit is by far the most popular diversion method.  I personally know one individual who has an Indiana Pouch, and she is very happy with it.  She is a physical fitness instructor btw.  In the Ontario Support Group I host, over 90% have the Ileal Conduit.  Many are physically active individuals. I can do the following to help you.  Invite you to attend my upcoming Support Group on the fourth Thursday in January and I can also help you speak with our 1 to 1 peer support volunteer – one with the Ileal Conduit and one with the Indiana Pouch.  They would be happy to share their experience with you.  You can private message me by clicking ‘send a message’ below my alias, or reply in here.

    My Best.
