ParticipantI thought as I got closer to retirement things would get simpler. YOu know; the kids grown and gone, more time for myself and get back to some of the stuff I used to do. While some of that is true and great; I’m now able to volunteer with Bladder Cancer Canada and Wellspring Calgary, life has gotten more complicated. With all the kids except the youngest out on their own it is harder to coordinate famly time, therefore I am relying on technology more and more just when I thought I’d need it less. I never dreamed I’d make use of a laptop. My new hearing aids while great have a lot of features that I’m still learning how to use – who knew that the darn things had programs and channels like TV? My new land line phone looks like a space command center and it was one of the more simpler versions. Our new car feels more like a space ship than a car. Mind you I won’t be complaining about the heated seats when it is -40. I have to admit I was glad for my cell phone when I accidentally shorted out my main line yesterday. Who dreams up all this stuff anyways?

ParticipantInteresting, I had the same conversation with my wife yesterday about all this stuff. The more I want to get away from technology and a complicated life, which by most peoples’s standards is pretty simple, it gets more comples. I want to sell at least one of the companies but that in itself is nightmareish so we won;t do that yet. I always planned to work till I drop but now I wnat to drop before I work. I really want to do what I did for the better part of my childhood and teenage years, sleep in the woods, track animals, raise animals, spend time on the farm and be quiet staying in my tent much of the time. Now there is so much light pollution I can;t even see the stars. Maybe I will just quit! At least I have the memories of the quiet and peaceful nights under the stars with just the coyotes and wolves and the occasional puma’s that passed by. Speaking of which we have a few new huge ones around here lately. BIG black ones with HUGE feet. I mean BIG cats. Seeing more coyotes too.

ParticipantWow, we have been talking about the same thing. Phones are useless cause no one answers a cell…they go to online sites like Facebook . I have to go there or I would never know what the heck any of the grandkids or kids are up to.
TV has 500 channels and nothing nworth watching most of the time. I like sports and Jeopardy. And they just doubled the price of my internet connection. GRRRRR
I loved the simple days sigh.
