I recently was outfitted with long overdue hearing aids. I’m still in the adjustment phase. I would like to hear from any other members about their experiences with them. How much did they help, what kind did you get etc? My hearing situation is a bit complicated. I have hearing loss caused probably by injury to the middle ear combined with with tinnitus. So far the hearing aids have reduced the tinnitus and I do hear considerably better. Thoughts anyone?

I can help. It’s easy. I just don;t use them. Fixed!

Jeanne, are you saying Medicare will pay for a hearing test but will not pay for the treatment if the need for hearing aids is found? Only in the U.S. What does Canada do in these cases. Maybe it’s time to move in with Marysue or Jack. No, not Jack, he’s a tree killer. Too much of a risk.

In Canada medical coverage for hearing aids varies by province. Down east the govt covers most of it. It is almost nada in ALberta unless you are 65+ or very low income or a kid under 18 then there is some coverage. I had to piece together the funds for this. I do get $500 back but when they cost $4,000 it doesn’t seem like much. I broke down and spent the money because it was getting to the point that I couldn’t hear very well outside and felt my safety was at stake. Needless to say the tinnitus has been worse since doing BCG and some days it is like a loud dentist drill in both ears. The aids lessen it quite a bit. I got higher end ones as these are supposed to last for 7-10 years with good care. The hearing test and exam was included as are all the tuneups for the aids and check ins with the specialist. I hope that I made a wise choice as it was a lot of money to spend.

Jeanne, if you guys are in finanacial need there should be some help no?

In April I will become older than young. Something like that. I’ll be 65. Still cannot understand that actually but I will be starting on Medicare. But I am buying supplemental health coverage through my Blue Cross policy along with prescription drug. My Mom had that and never had to spend a penny on anything. But she did’;t have hearing aids so I don;t know about that. Right now I pay $12,000 a year for Blue Cross insurance. In April it goes down to about $300.00 for the supplemental. But elections are coming up so……..!

Yep, Medicare will pay to see if you need teeth help with a first visit..if you need work done or dentures..too bad.
Hearing the same way. and same for glasses …Just to see if you need anything done.

I don’t get it. That is what majority of older people need help with..eyes, hearing, and teeth. Makes me pretty disgusted.

We have a supplement too, $300 a month for both of us. Hope it doesn’t increase of we will be in dire straights. sigh
