While I has doing my research for my mom’s surgery, I found this video about catherizing Indiana Pouch very informative (I must say again that this lady in the video is truly a heroine!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_hjP8Skw4w

Thanks Kit,
JackJune 24, 2013 at 2:09 am #15774ZinaParticipantThanks for the post, Kit. As an IP-er myself, I can say that procedure in the video is much like the one I use. If you have any further questions about the Indiana pouch, please feel free to ask either on this forum, or send me a private message. I will echo what the woman in the video said – I have a great quality of life thanks to my IP, and I am grateful I had it as an option.
June 24, 2013 at 11:53 am #15775KitParticipantThanks Zina for your offer and it’s fantastic you are happy with your IP, my mom though, will be having Ileal Conduit as recommended by our doctor. I am trying hard to stay on top of what are going to happen and it is draining…
Kit.
June 24, 2013 at 2:47 pm #15776GregParticipantKit, I liked your pun…”it is draining”. Good one. The ileal conduit will certainly be draining, but that’s a good thing as far as bodily functions go. All the best for your mom.
GregJune 25, 2013 at 12:25 pm #15779KitParticipantThank you Greg! We went to see the nurse, who’s also the stoma therapist, yesterday and she is very kind and caring. It is extrememly helpful for her to show us the pouch samples and some real pictures. She will definitely help my mom’s draining smooth and keep my draining away!

It is because of her website (http://bladdercancerwarrior.com/) that I was able to find all of you at BCC. She is indeed a heroine for bladder cancer survivorship. She became my virtual coach through my RC and stayed with me through the toughest part of the journey. She lives in Seattle. Another BC angel in our midst!
Cheers!

December 12, 2013 at 4:21 pm #16639KIOWAParticipantGreat video, thanks. I don’t have an Indiana pouch but I think I would use sterile gloves for the caths, not sure why she didn’t but I am by no means an expert on this.

December 20, 2013 at 10:09 pm #16658GregParticipantI would not cath with sterile gloves. I’d use a catheter. Sterile gloves would be too thick after you blow into them to inflate them and there are too many fingers which could be uncomfortable. Mind you, I also am no expert.
