Sorry to hear of your cancer but glad you reached out.

My tumors occurred and recurred in the bladder only and were non-invasive state. You are in/close to the GTA and have access to some of the best medical staff available. I would suggest you seek a second opinion, if you haven’t already, and if you need names of the best this site can help.

You can email or call…the contact information is available herein.

Wishing you the very best outcome…

Sounds like a scary experience to have to go through. I am new here, but saw that you posted this message in February. How did things turn out for you? Thinking about you.

I hope that they were able to save your kidney. That is a very big decision and as already mentioned it may be worth considering a second opinion since you would want to have full understanding of your situation and make sure that was the best option for you before proceeding.

When I was diagnosed with BC in September 2012 I was getting sick and had blood in urine. October I was medivaced to Yellowknife, my left tube had plugged up and backed up into my left kidney, I went septic, 50/50 to live the night, but as you see I did. Sent to Edmonton, tests, turb, etc., doc said bladder and left kidney have to go. Seems I had BC inside, outside my left tube had growth that squeezed tube closed (temp tube inserted to avoid another shutdown). I wanted second opinion, went to a doctor Hyndman in Calgary. He wanted to try to save kidney. January 2013 when I went for operation I knew I may wake up without left kidney, depended on how far up my left tube the cancer was progressed. Turned out they cut section off tube, kept kidney, lost bladder, and prostate, where they found large cancer they were not aware of. All 13 lymphnodes were negative too. Had many issues in hospital, including a stroke, and day I was discharged my incission opened up, about. 2″ hole took 5 weeks to heal up. I took 6 months to get back to just feeling crappy. Returned to work September 2013. I still have pains. Had an episode taken to hospital, not sure what happened, pain was 11/10… they think maybe mucus plugged left tube, I had reduced urine output, had a ct scan found nothing. I have become used to coloplast bags and live with it no problems now. I just wished these daily pains would go away. Anyone else still have pain after 2 years?

So sorry to learn of your Tumors. I agree with Rick, a second opinion never hurts. Not sure why they would take the kidney unless the Tumors have spread.
I did have a left Nephrectomy when I was 15, but it was due to loss of function. I went on to lead a healthy life, until most recently, had 2 beautiful children.
I have learned with my latest surgery, however, that I no longer recover quite as quickly as I did many moons ago.
Whatever the outcome, I wish you all the best and know that there are a lot of people on BCC that are there to talk whenever you need.

    Sincerely,
    RLM

Glad you joined us. I have no experience with what you have encountered but for sure a second opinion is always justifiable and can sometimes make a huge difference. Frequent follow up is critical and that will mean follow up for the rest of your life. But if anything changes you do need to know about it right away. Kinda like stopping for gas every day. Just another thing you need to do. I’m glad you joined us. Everyone has so much to add to our knowlege base. I wish you well,

    Kiowa
