ParticipantGrow up!
Yeah, we’ve all heard it from our parents, teachers, dogs, neighbors, etc when we were young. Of this does not include Greg because it is impossible for him to even understand the concept of growing up. Anyway, I was thinking about the other day and wondered what I would have said when I was given commands to grow up if I had the cognitive ability and language base to respond the way I wish I had. Pretend you’re from 6 to maybe 16 years old:Things like:
Are you ever going to grow up? Answer: “why would you care?” or “is this a yes or no question”
Grow up. Answer, “yes, but I have not been served yet” or “I need the instruction manual”.
I wish you would grow up. Answere: “Me too, then I could leave home and get away with it”.
You’ll never grow up. Answer: “How far into the future are talking here?”
You’re acting like a child. Answer: “Yeah well at age 2 I think I am totally justified in acting the age I’m at and if you can’t deal with it call the police and have me arrested”.
You never act your age. Answer: Not true, I act my age whenever I’m not around you”.
What in the world did they expect of us? I mean what exactly does “grow up” mean, or “act your age”. What does that mean?
I think I would have been in serious trouble, and in reality I was always in serious trouble anyway. It was just a matter of degree.
Now we await Greg’s response and hope he doesn’t. But he will because he just never grows up.Gregory, age 3.

ParticipantGrow deep. Grow strong. Grow in grace. Grow in humour. Grow in knowledge. Grow in experience. Grow in love.
But up? Not at all worried about that.

ParticipantIt’s almost an oxymoron isn’t it? I’m guilty of saying that to my kids and then when they actually did grow up I was still having trouble with that concept. Seriously, reality hit home one day. I was telling one of my kids that he wasn’t big enough to do what he was asking me to allow him to do. He reached over my head (he’s 6Ft tall) to get the bowl out of the cupboard for me and turned to face me, handed me the bowl and said “You mean that I’m not old enough”. I shut up for quite a while.

ParticipantI grew up to 5’2″ that’s as far as I got…doc just measured me last month and I am now 5’1″ … so I use less soap to wash now. 🙂

ParticipantI actually grew. At the beginning of my BC journey 4 years ago I was 5ft 6 in. Now I’m 5ft 7 1/2in. I attribute that to all the yoga I’ve been doing the past 3 years. I’ve noticed that my back and legs are straighter. It has improved my muscle strength and tone immensely. I’ve mild scoliosis in my back and have noticed that my mid back curves properly now. I still have a bit of a curve in my upper back. Hopefully that will straighten out in time as well.

ParticipantGreg, I fully agree. And I like the answer your son gave you, Marysue. He put you in your place for a while I guess. You need to grow up and become a responsible person!
