    Posted on behalf of MissCanada

I am a female in my mid forties. Ex smoker but quit over 15 years ago. No family history of  bladder cancer.

I have a mild vaginal prolapse and 2 free floating kidney stones.

Over the past year I have had nonstop recurring uti’s. No bacteria when cultured.

I also have a weak/slow urine stream. No blood present in urine.

My gp had me do an ultrasound last month that came back normal.

This week I saw a urologist and in 2 weeks I am headed for cysto.

Is it a good sign that the ultrasound was normal?

Any thing I should know before I go for the cysto?

    Thanks and take care,
    MissCanada.

    Yay!!! I can post today!!!

    Hello everyone.

Thanks for posting for me Jack.

I go for my cysto Wednesday, not worried about the procedure itself, I am more so about “knowing” though.

Anyone have any advice for me? I would appreciate it.

Jack. Do they tell you right then and there while the procedure is being performed, or do they make you wait for results?

I will update you after my appt Wed,

    MissCanada.

    Hi Miss Canada:

Finally the glitches are fixed and I can post!  One up for the tech guys at BCC!  Many thanks!!

First off, I’d say that your chances are reasonable for good news since your ultrasound didn’t show anything.  And yes, if you watch the screen during your exam you will be able to see inside your bladder in full living colour.  If there was ever anything of benefit to get out of the exam for me this is it.  Just seeing that pink clear wall of my bladder each spring does wonders for my moral.

If there is anything there of note the uro will show and explain to you what it is and if anything further is needed in terms of surgery or treatment.  As for the exam itself, it should not be painful.  They give you a local anesthetic in the urethra that numbs you up and makes it easier for the scope to slide in.  You may feel some pressure from the scope and/or saline that they put in your bladder to inflate it for the exam.

You may have the urge to pee right after and for a few hours it may sting when you go.  Word to wise that may sound counterintuitive – drink lots of water post exam.  It will make you go more and reduce the risk of infection post exam.  By peeing more the stinging goes away sooner.  I think you mentioned that you’ve had issues with UTIs.  I’d ask if you should take a pre exam antibiotic to help prevent infection.

I had no issue with post exam infection until last year. I ended up with 2 back to back whomping e-coli infections that knocked me flat.  It took three rounds of antibiotics to clear it.  I had another infection this past January.

What I was told by my GP was to take an antibiotic pre sex for which he gave me a prescription.  I also pay more attention to myself post toilet visits.

Like you I have a prolapsed vagina and partial urethral prolapse.  The vaginal issue was repaired during my hysterectomy surgery in 2002 but has since redeveloped but in a much minor fashion.  Still, I wonder if it is not allowing me to empty my bladder properly and now it may be an issue for a cause of infection.  The urethral prolapse is simply collateral damage from surgeries and scopes.  In your case, I would ask your uro if the vaginal prolapse could be a factor with the weak/slow urine stream and an issue as potential cause for a UTI.

Anyhow, those are my thoughts…Best of luck on Wednesday.  Let us know how it goes.  ((((HUGS))))

    Thanks Mary Sue,

I really appreciate your reply. Tomorrow is the day so at the least I will know what’s going on.

Thanks for that advice, I will ask my urologist if my issues could be cause by my prolapse.

I will for sure let you all know how it goes. I feel happy that I’ve found you all, it’s a very nice forum.

    Hugs.

    Miss Canada.

    Hi MissCanada:

Yes…it is good to catch a break when you have had numerous health challenges.  When there is a bunch of things going on, many times you wonder “Okay, what next?”.  I’m really glad that there is no “What next?” in this situation.  All the best and be well. ((((HUGS))))
