Hello, I haven’t posted in a very long time. Aslo, i posted this on another thread but I thought it would be best here… On Wednesday I went for my follow-up cystoscopy (after turbt Feb 2016) and got an all clear. The next day I went to my GP for my routine check up, and got the result of my urine analysis made a month ago and it shows blood in the urine (+++). Should I mention it to my Uro, or should I wait, because if there’s anything, it will have shown in the urine sample sent to cytology? Not sure if one test includes the other… Thanks for your help.

    Hi Suzanne,

I had blood in my urine after my recent cystoscopy and was told it was normal. There was not a lot and it lasted just a few days. It has stopped now. Not sure what +++ means so I can’t speak to that. Unless I see a lot after a cystoscopy I don’t report it to my urologist (and I have never had to do that.)

    Thanks Lou
I would not have worried either with some blood after a cystoscopy except that the blood is shown in the result of the routine urine analysis requested by my GP a month before my cystoscopy. I was wondering if I should let my Uro know or will he see something as well from the test he requested himself (cytology?).

    Hi Suzanne,
    Sorry for misunderstanding your post.

I don’t know the exact protocol in your neck of the woods, but where I live, I would get a copy of the GP results to my urologist. And if I had a clean cysto on Wednesday, I would not consider it high priority. Around here they check for blood immediately prior to doing a cysto, and so my urologist would see if it were still there. In any case I would feel better if it were in my urologist’s records.

    Hi Suzanne:

For peace of mind, I strongly recommend making sure that your uro knows that blood was present in your urine PRIOR to your recent cysto.  It may or may not be something.  The cysto reassured you and your doc that your bladder was okay but it doesn’t check out the rest of your urinary tract.

If you also had another cytology test along with the cysto it may pick up anything like cancer cells but there are many causes for blood in the urine.  You would want to rule out any issues with your kidneys and/or ureters. I recommend following this up with your uro to determine if there actually is anything else to be concerned about. If he does suspect anything he can order further tests.  ((((HUGS))))
