    Hello everyone

MarySue had a wonderful idea: a flower in Greg’s memory.

Please suggest a flower/plant that can be designated as Greg’s flower/plant.

Then we can approach BCC’s board about making that flower/plant designation official. Then we can start planning how it can be used in the future to help promote awareness.

    My suggestion: sunflower

Please add your suggestions to the poll (I believe you can add ones)

Okay, I went back in and checked but don’t see how anything can be added to the options on the poll. Will check with the powers that be if this can be changed. In the meantime, enter your suggestion as a message.

I also went out and walked around my yard looking for other possible flowers/plants:

    – red azalea
    – blazing star (perennial, purple)
    – yellow dahlia

    Take care

I like the idea of a sunflower because it is yellow, the colour associated with BCC and I think it represents Greg’s sunny positive mindset. It grows tall which represents the heights we have to go to overcome the battle with BC. Maybe his missus would like to vote on this? Just my thoughts…

My flowers all got frosted a couple of nights ago. I will be gardening tomorrow to get my veggies in. I did grow large yellow marigolds this year in pots with purple alyssum. It looked great. ((((HUGS)))))

    Thanks MarySue

I thought the sunflower would be wonderful because it can represent so many things. Years ago I got my hands on some giant sunflower seeds. The plants grew over 14 feet.

We had our first frost middle of August. Covered everything so my plants were okay. Almost two weeks ago we had a killing frost. Covered everything and most of my plants survived. I had some covered plants take a hit along the top.

Cleaned my garden out this week except for my herb garden, cucumbers and strawberries. Still hanging onto my flowers as they are absolutely awesome. I don’t want to lose their color quite yet. After the August frost some trees started turning. Now about half the trees have turned. Ugh, winter.

    Take care

Hi All, I like the sunflower idea also. Because of its’ vivid yellow colour and large size, tall stem, it just represents a sign of strength, something that’s so needed with this journey with bladder cancer. Certainly, Greg was a great example of strength and courage, not only with his own battle, but in his giving of so much to the other members of this forum. Just my opinion of course.

I like the sunflower for Greg too. I had the privilege of meeting Greg in Edmonton several years ago and exchanged a few communications, including the gift of his book.

His sunny disposition in the face of every challenge, his spiritual faith, courage and resolve – heads held high reaching for the sun and facing whatever comes (like frost!). He was also a resource to so many — like the sunflower seeds are to the many birds. The list goes on.

I agree the sunflower suits Bladder Cancer Canada and Greg. For all the reasons you have mentioned. The sunflower, and Greg, definitely stood out from the crowd, is brave, bright, and shares their resources.

So, if we are going to do this, how to go about it?

    Hello MarySue

Great input so far. The more people that add their opinion the better.

Once there is a general consensus, then it is a matter of going up the chain of command: executive director; a review of the bylaws for compliance/restrictions; then to the board.

I will be away the rest of this week but will start with getting the executive director on board.

    Take care
