Has anyone had the scope with the new way where they clean you out with water at the office instead of drinking that awful gallon of stuff that makes you wish you were dead?

Sounds a lot easier. Would love to hear if anyone has tried it.
No way is pleasant, but sounds ok.

I haven’t even heard of it or tried it but it makes way more sense. I do know that some people have gone for a type of colon flush I think it is called a colonic before a colonoscopy. Whether they did that in addition to the stuff you drink I don’t know. I haven’t yet consented to a colonoscopy because that is one of my concerns is the stuff you have to drink. I feel that the amount of diaherrra that it causes puts one at risk for dehydration and I worry about whether it stresses your kidneys out too. I in no way would say to someone to avoid having one if they feel it is in their best interest to do it. My hubby had a colonoscopy in 2003 and just had to take pills. I was scheduled for one and went for the group teaching but canned it because the date coincided with my second TURBT and I didn’t want to drink all that gallon of stuff either. I nearly fainted when I saw the size of the jug. My doc just recommended it as part of my 50+ check of stuff not because there was any real concern. I’ll wait for the water method if that is becoming the new way of doing things.

Never heard of that method of cleanse. I’ve had three of the preps and found that the whole tHing was relatively easy and no dehydration, no problems. I think Shakespeare wrote a play about it. Called it “Much ado about nothing.” Since colon cancer is a very treatable form of the disease and it has few if any symptoms, best to get the scope and find any issues early. In that way, it is similar to bladder cancer. The earlier found and treated, the better, in spite of the discomfort, if any.

had first colonoscopy for my 50th birthday. found polyps which they removed, said that unfound they could have become cancerous. so… i’m happy to have done it.

From what I read and saw a video of, it is easier, and I hope hubby will be pleased. He will take a laxative, but nothing like that gallon of stuff like I did.

It is $100 extra, not covered by insurance , but worth it to have him with less pain. He has enough pain with the cancer .

So going to have it done that way.

I have had several colonoscopies and my prep consists of a small bottle to drink and pills. As I am asleep during the procedure my discomfort comes a few hours after taking the prep until the morning of the scope. Is it possible your doctor might have another method to clean you out that might be a little easier to handle?

I have heard of other ways other than the gallon of stuff but in talking to my doctor he finds it is still the best way of clearing out the track. I am going in this month for my ten year check and I am not looking forward to the pineapple stuff but it is better than the alternative. My doc has broken it up with some at night and the rest in the morning so many hours before the scope. Once again it is unpleasant but better than lossing your gut. Just like us that go in for our scope and the BCG treatments. Talk to some the have had the bladder removed.

Had a colonoscopy a few months ago and have had a few of them. Started before 50 as both parents have had colon cancer. I had just two little bottles that I mixed with juice or water. One in the afternoon and the second one real early in the morning around 5 a.m. No problem with the prep and agree caught early colon cancer can be cured my mom now 22 years but my dad sadly would not go in even when he knew there was a problem and it was to late. Love the water prep better though but have not heard of it.

Have not heard of the water torture techniques. Sounds pretty messy to me. But what the heck, as long as I’m not on the receiving end who cares?

I had colon cancer and two feet of large intestine were excised. So the colonoscopy prep is only two thirds as bad as it was.

From what I understand he will have a couple of pills and miralax night before ..still beats that gallon jug (puke), then the rest washed out with warm water solution. supposed to feel very good after except a lot of tooting going on, lol.

Not sure he will go for sure , but I think he should. We made a bargain,..if I went for one first , he would have one too. Well, I did! So a bargain is a bargain!
