Hi Rick, thank you – I did receive your private message. So good to hear that after all you have gone through, you have been clear since July 2013. Will post details of Arn’s visit to VGH Cancer Clinic scheduled for June 22 …
God Bless you too!

ParticipantIn response to Cheryl9, Hi there Cheryl, I just read your recent post and thought I would respond. First of all, hoping for the very best in your scope coming up tomorrow, and the BCG treatments to follow. It seems like you have lots going on besides trying to take care of yourself with this bladder cancer. I’m sure that most days you must wonder where you get the strength to put one foot in front of the other, but it is what we do isn’t it. You don’t say what ages your two children are, but mental illness is very challenging at any age. That alone would wear down most people, but when you add in all the other challenges you face, i.e. with the care your husband requires, and your own cancer, it must seem overwhelming at times. My heart goes out to you. I guess if we stopped to dwell on all of this, we’d cave, so best to just get on with it and hope for the best. Will be thinking about you in the coming days and wish for the best outcome for you. Take care and come back on here to the forum (when you can bring up your head for air) and let us know how you are.
Take care.

ParticipantHello everyone
ALL CLEAR
ALL CLEAR
ALL CLEAR!!!!!!
Huge weight off my shoulders as I really couldn’t tell this time around whether there were more tumors or not. In the past, I pretty much could tell.
Looking forward to July 7. This will be my one year anniversary of “cancer free”. Hard to believe that a year ago things looked so bleak: recurrence; high grade CIS; different uro did the surgery and missed a tumor; redid a month later after I told the uro that things never felt right after surgery. Sure glad the uro took a chance that I knew what I was talking about and rebooked right away. Also glad that since then I have only dealt with my regular uro.
Thanks for all the encouragement. My children are 19 and 22. Two super intelligent young men in a family (my mother’s maternal side) that has numerous super intelligent people with mental illness. They sure didn’t get a fair shake with the genes. Add to this that I fit the new definition of BC being hereditary (weak link but I fit it all), and my sons don’t have a fighting chance. Actually, a 38% chance that they will also get BC. So I drive the point home all the time that they never take up smoking or drink alcohol. So far so good.
Anyway, my life is very full but, as my husband says, the biggest culprit could be my back deck. It keeps kidnapping me. Summer and winter! I have decided, though, not to lay charges.
Take care

ParticipantJune 22, 2016 – Arn has to have his bladder removed. He had his consultation with Dr. So at VGH this morning. He was very caring and to the point. Arn has a 3-month ‘window of opportunity’ before the cancer spreads. Dr. So said BCG treatments might have a 20%-30% chance – not a good risk. Clinical trials starting in approx. 6 months. Arn can’t wait that long. Adding meds like MMC or EMDA ‘not proven in BCG failure’. We were both given the booklet on what to expect from radical systectomy (bladder removal). Definitely not a walk in the park! Arn refused surgery, but Dr. So asked him to think it over & let him know next week what he has decided and that he wasn’t pressuring Arn for an answer today. We were in shock – not expecting that news. Thought they would try chemo or some other method. Arn went to work and I went and visited my girlfriend of 43 years. She is also Arn’s sister-in-law.
When Arn got home from work I asked him how he was. He said he’s been thinking about what to do. Not much of a choice – an “inney’ or an “outey”. Maybe as soon as 3 weeks from now. Arn still wants the neobladder which is fine. He asked me to ask those of you that chose the neobladder if you were happy with the choice, and if it was successful. Well, can you believe, as soon as I logged in I was at a page where 3-4 people were discussing their recent RC’s, and 1 person had theirs since 2013 !!! Exactly what I needed to read. God moves in mysterious ways. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Two of the people are from BC, and being treated in Vancouver. I was so relieved that I could give Arn this information right away.
Will keep you posted, good wishes to all –

ParticipantHad my three tumours removed in Oct 2013.
I am one of the lucky ones as have done 2 years of 3 month check-ups and just did my first 6 month check up and everything is still clear.

ParticipantHi Farm-Boy,
In spite of Arn’s difficulties getting his bladder cancer under control, I am still very happy when I hear good news about someone else’s success ! I am glad you are one of the lucky ones. You know what it’s like to have tumours removed and then wait for 3 months for your first check-up. Having everything clear after the 3-mont check-ups, and a 6-month check-up is fantastic. I wish continued success for you!
take care,
Arn & Kory
