Hi Everyone:
I hope that at least most of you have had a good start to your summer. I know down east it has been brutally hot. Calgary has had an up and down summer temperature wise but so far no serious hail storms which is surprising as it usually happens during Stampede week. However, let’s enjoy the sun no matter where we are in this beautiful country of ours and give thanks for it. Best Wishes, thoughts and prayers for anyone having to do “stuff” this month.

It has been brutally hot this past couple of weeks, yet so lucky to be close to nice lake and a beach. I started to have recurrent UTI’s in the past 3 months (of course added yeast infection from antibiotics), blood and what feels like bladder spasms after exercise. I have an appointment tomorrow with urologist locum to discuss, I’m hoping the plan will be to escalate the date of my next scope and CT of my kidneys. My last scope was in March, which was negative for regrowth (diagnosed Nov 11, 2017). It’s scary to know that cancer can return, and what might be next. It’s a challenging situation to be advocate, the patient…and health professional.

Locum suggested starting BCG, will speak with my regular urologist regarding followup. I also saw fertility specialist for preservation, which I think is worth mentioning for those who are younger patients living with bladder cancer (treatment with MMC and maybe less so BCG direct impact on egg bank ).

I think that this is a real struggle for younger female patients that have BC especially if they still want to have kids or add to their family. I feel fortunate that I was past that when I was diagnosed at age 50. I’m glad that you have already taken the step to see the fertility specialist. I have always strongly recommended that younger women who may still want to have kids have a heart to heart with their uro and/or OB/GYN/fertility specialist before conceiving. You would want to make sure that you are cancer free before conception and make sure that you’d have a game plan should the cancer return while pregnant or when the kids are little.
As a woman who has raised four kids and been through the BC journey twice, there is no way I’d want to be pregnant or dealing with a small baby or child while doing cancer surgery or treatment. I wish you all the best. ((((HUGS))))
