    Hi again everyone!

We’re heading into the last half of summer already. I hope everyone’s summer is going well. I’m keeping busy with a garden that is going gangbusters due to all the rain. Who knew that we were in a drought a few weeks ago? El Nino is supposed to be on the way out and La Nina taking over. We’ll see what that brings for Calgary. Anyhoo…..nothing for me this month. Wishing all the best to those that have “stuff” to do in regards to dealing with BC. Keep the positive prayers and thoughts coming. ((((((HUGS))))))

marysue I have BCG treatments in August on the 2nd, 9th and the last one one the 16th. I am hoping it goes as well as the first, Will get someone to take my photo in bed for my family including the ones in Fort Saskatchewan where incidentally we should have been at this time had I not been diagnosed with BC so next year body willing! Keep up the gardening it’s great for the mind they say just don’t tell anyone your plants are talking to you as the men in white coats will knock on your door.
    Love and best wishes,
    Paul

Hi fellow BCC members and hope all is going well with every one, I had my 4th BCG treatment today and so far had nothing to write about in the way of side effects. I have changed my ways since the coffee incident on # 2 treatment and now only drink hot water which seems to work, Two to go then another Cystoscopy and a further 3 maintenance BCG treatments, being new to BCG I have been blessed by the nurses who treat me in the Hervey Bay Cancer Care Clinic here in Australia. I am hoping for a clear Cysto result and realize it’s a lifetime journey we travel on.
Love and best wishes to all.

Malcolm has his follow-up appointment with the St. Mike’s Pain Clinic team. Discussions regarding next steps, as the 1st two procedures for pain prevention, were unsuccessful.

Had my 6th BCG today and apart from bleeding and fatigue all is good, I will give the bleeding until the morning then doctors or A&E. A shame to have a lot of bleeding on the last treatment but I have been very fortunate so far. Next one coming up is a Cystoscopy next month so fingers crossed for that, then another 3 BCG treatments if all is well with the Cysto.
Love and best wishes to all.

Eddie, Congratulations on 3 years all clear !! That is just fantastic news.

Paul, I get the full list of common side effects – including some bleeding. The bleeding doesn’t make the toilet water all pink or red – I would characterize it as more like fine red particles on the toilet bowl wall where the urine stream “hits”.
The side effects, except fatigue, goes away in 12 to 16 hours.
Fatigue, tends to last for some weeks
I think this reference summarizes BCG and its side effects rather well:
    Ref: http://chemocare.com/chemotherapy/drug-info/bcg.aspx
    Note that:
“The following side effects are common (occurring in greater than 30%) for patients taking BCG:
    •Fatigue
•Bladder Problems (Painful or difficult urination, urgency, urinary frequency)
    •Urinary frequency
•Blood in the urine (hematuria) (see bladder problems)
•Flu-like symptoms: fever, chills, malaise, fatigue, generalized aches and pains.”

Anyway … the reference supplied also suggests when you should contact your health care team. I pray the BCG treatment continues to go well for you.

    God Bless

Thanks DDep and another day brings relief from bleeding and a good nights sleep always works, bleeding was quite bad and painful this was caused I believe by the nurse “anchoring” the catheter on entry as it kept sliding out, maybe a slight tear in the urethra as when she tugged the catheter back there was a sharp pain and no bleeding when they voided the BCG just when they removed the catheter after treatment. I stopped all fluid intake yesterday when the bleeding was causing problems including a slight fever which seemed to work and only had a cup of tea 2 hours before going to bed, One void through the night and up at 7 am so all good and job done. No more BCG till the 3 maintenance treatments in Sept/Oct after my next Cysto so a rest till then, fatigue I put down to age (only 65) so it’s back to the man cave today and work on my old truck continue’s. Hope every ones BC journey is as smooth as mine has been, the nurses at Hervey Bay Cancer Care Clinic have been great and one bad experience out of 6 treatments isn’t much to worry about.
Love and best wishes to all.
    Paul
