The bone pain I have been having in my lower back and hips and legs has been evaluated and of course there was some concern of bone cancer but it turns out to be spinal stenosis. My bone specialist said it will get worse and in the end may require surgery. There are also a lot of bone spurs. He suggests trying everything else first such as acupuncture, massage, chiropractic techniques and of course medication to try to control the worsening pain. Will have to see a back specialist at some point soon for a closer look. Possibly with the DOG scan. At least it’s not cancer. That’s a good thing. No serious arthritis either, also good. Just a very tiny little bit. the stenoisis, well I’ll just deal with it like everything else. Sure does hurt though. But thankfully it is not bone cancer. My wife, kidding (I hope) asked me if I want to shop around for state of the art wheel chair with strobe lights. Walking is a bit of a problem, but no wheel chair just yet. That’s the latest. I think I will hold off on surgery until it is clearly necessary. I’ll keep y’all informed.

Ouch! Spinal stenosis is quite painful. Does a back brace help? Did the doc say when the best time for surgery would be? Agree with you…. it is not cancer!
    Thanks for keeping us posted.

It is painful to say the least. I will be seeing a specialist in this field as soon as I find the best one for the surgery. The concern at this time is that continued pressure on the spinal cord can cause irreparable damage. I understand the nature and treatment of this problem but I want to get ALL the info I need and get the best of the best. I’d rather not have surgery of course but the course of this disease is that it continues to get worse so surgery is likely inevitable. I’m sure I’ll need an MRI, a CAT scan and a Dog scan. I had a whole body scan about 8 years ago for ruling out bone cancer and I saw the MRI’s at that time and the spurs were pretty extensive so I’m not at all surprised by this. Of course I will accept tequila donations (kidding of course). If I solicit tequila on this site Jack will pong me to death with golf balls. But it’s unlikely he could actually hit me with one. A club maybe though! Ouch!

OK I’ll bite. A DOG scan??? Is this like a PET scan in Texas or are they finally calling you a dog? Maybe they are barking up the wrong tree. I occasionally leave a poodle if I don’t make it to the bathroom.

And I would prefer if you did not see a specialist in the field. Better to see him in his office. Certainly better to have surgery in a hospital and leave the specialist in his field if he wants to be there. Certainly a new crop of doctors out there, I guess.

Hope you get the right treatment before you go crazy – oops, too late. But I hope you get the right treatment anyway. We need you, my friend, and enjoy your company. Thanks for all you do here.

Ki, as the others have echoed your sentiments, at least it isn’t cancer. But somehow I think that you must be trying to get into the guiness book of records for the most complicated medical history! (Only kidding!) That being said you are a true testement to the resilience of the human spirit. I truly hope that you find a way to manage the pain and can avoid surgery.

I do recommend acupuncture. I go for regular treatments. I have done it for over 10 years off and on and got serious about it when diagnosed wth BC. It helped me recover from surgery and lessened the side effects of BCG treatments and also helped with menopause hot flashes. It does help with pain and inflammation so I think that it is worth a try. Check out the acupuncturist’s background though as they often specialize in certain areas. Mine is also an MD from China. She isn’t licensed to practice in Canada but does use her medical knowledge combined with her knowledge of Traditional Chinese medicine to treeat patients. She has knowledge of cancer so that is why I go to her.

If you do have to have surgery, get them to put tequila in the IV. Be well, my friend.

I am sure that surgery will be your last resort as it sounds like you will be trying everything to prevent it. I always wish only the best for you and hope the pain will subside soon. We all look forward to your comments on BCC.

Kiowa, I will also say, thank goodness it is not cancer. I am sorry for the pain it is causing you….I second Marysue’s idea – tequila by IV sound like a good plan.
Take care. I hope you find a good solution to manage the pain. We all benefit by your contributions to this site.

Oh Ki, I like everyone else am so glad it’s not cancer. I certainly hope that you get relief from your pain sooner rather than later as constant pain is very difficult to deal with. I do like the idea of strobe lights though, BeeGee’s and disco now that might be the way to go. Take care my friend you are our sunshine here.
