Two bears in our yard today . One early today, and one just about a half hour ago. Neighborhood got together making noise and he went up the street and off to who knows where. One this morning was in the driveway as we were going to the car. He ran when he saw hubby as he went outside. Lots of bears , more than usual this year.

Warning went out last week that there would probably be a lot more this year. So far we have seen 4 in our yard.

Bear Mama , Jeanne , signing out 😛

Bear with them, Jeanne. I have friends in Colorado who are also getting bears in the yard a lot this year due to dry weather and lack of food elsewhere. The garbage bins make for an eclectic delicatessen – as do the chickens and rabbits and small pets if they are not careful.

I have a friend from church that just moved back to Calgary-not far from my house. She retired a few years ago and decided to move to Vancouver Island. She ran into black bears several times while walking her dog. This was in town not out in the boondocks. A cougar was stalking kids in the schoolyard as well. She got upset about this and also the fact that that they don’t tranquilize and relocate the bears. If one is reported they are tracked down and shot. She was so upset over this policy (and had other reasons) so she moved back to Calgary. She also said at 76 she wasn’t capable of defending herself or her dog and preferred to move back to the big city. We do get bears on the south and west side of the city. They usually come looking for easy food and to raid people’s berry patches. The majority of the time they will be tranquilized, tagged and transported to a location into the mountains. They are only destroyed if they are repeat offenders and have become habituated to humans. I guess it is a case of grin and bear it. Sorry, somebody had to say it right?

You are? No wonder the bears keep visiting you. And I thought it was the pancakes
you make for them every morning.
