just had my third BCG treatment and for a couple of hours was passing rusty coloured urine that had particles of what looked like tissue.
any ideas what these particles were or has anyone else had this happen.
    thanks

    HI Jr

During BCG treatments post Turbt passing tissue and rusty coloured urine is quite common. Remnants of the healing from your Turbt. I had this happen after my 1st Turbt and in talking to others found it to be quite common. All the best on your next 3 treatments.

I agree with Jack. I had 19 BCG treatments and for some I passed some blood – depending upon my amount of inflammation and if they scrapped the tube along my urethra. It is not uncommon to pass some blood after BCG treatments.

My reminder is to keep up with your BCG treatments. They were what definitely turned my situation around years ago – my original uro only did 6 treatments and I had a reoccurrence, my second uro gave me 13 more treatments and no more reoccurences.

    Hi Jr:

I’ve had 2 TURBTs and 21 BCG treatments. I was fortunate in that I didn’t pass any visible blood during treatments but towards the end I did notice that my urine was darker and therefore most likely had blood in it.

I found drinking a whole ton of water and peppermint and chamomile herb teas post treatment really helpful in keeping my urine diluted and I truly believe that the herb teas helped my bladder. I know that my digestive tract felt better when I drank them.

Like Val, I also had a very sore urethra most likely from the catheter or possibly the soreness was from the BCG as well. I often suspected but never asked to check it out, that if there was blood whether it was coming from an inflamed urethra or my bladder.

I too, recommend that you keep pushing forward with your treatments but if you feel that there is anything unusual happening, talk to your urologist or clinic staff before having the next one. It is normal for some people to have a bit of blood in their urine post treatment but it should clear up in about 24-48 hours. If the bleeding doesn’t clear up between treatments and continues to worsen, then that is the time to talk to your urologist or the BCG clinic staff to make sure that it is still okay to continue. They will instruct you on what your options are. Good luck with the rest of your treatments. ((((HUGS))))

    Hello JR

My layman, laywoman or laypeople’s interpretation (yes, I am feeling cheeky today about political correctness): the BCG treatments irritate the first layer of your bladder; bladder sloughs off that layer (it regrows); it is going to show in the urine as it comes out; blood can sometimes show also; important part is that you are able to urinate.

I have now had 30 BCG treatments so consider myself to be a bit of an old hand at them. Biggest plus is drinking lots of water once you are past the two hour hold. My research indicates there is some question about the effectiveness of BCG should it get diluted by too much urine during the two hour hold. After the two hours, drink water like you never have before. I do 24 ounces every hour for the first three hours then back off to 24 ounces every two hours for next two hours. Otherwise I am running to the bathroom all night. I also do my treatments earlier in the day. Also stop drinking four hours prior to your treatment to reduce urine buildup for the two hour hold.

    Take care
    Cheryl

Hi jr and hope the bleeding stops soon, on my first lot of BCGs I was still scabbing up as the doctors described it after the removal of the tumour and CIS spots that caused my joining this most salubrious club. I was passing big pieces of “stuff” mixed with blood and urine of a very dark colour but this cleared after the 6 week course of BCG finished.
    Hugs & Kisses to all
    Paul
ps I have been missing for a while as I have been having some “issues” but I hope they will be winning issues, time will tell.

    Hi Paul:

I hope that those “issues” prove to be a “non-issue” in the long run. You’ve done enough with the bladder cancer stuff. Positive thoughts and prayers for a good outcome. (((((HUGS)))))
