KeymasterHi Tucson
BCG infusion is the common method and actually the gold treatment for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. EMDA is a course of treatment where the bladder is heated and mitomycin C (chemo) is instilled in the bladder. EMDA is normally used after BCG failure or refractory. In Ontario EMDA is not covered by our Provincial Health Plan, but has had some good results in trials.
Have you had BCG failure? Is that the reason you are considering EMDA?
I personally had BCG instillation (infusion), and BCG maintenance treatments did encounter 2 recurrences during the process, but have been all clear for 9 years.
All the best,

ParticipantValstar is another drug used to treat bnon muscle invasive bladder cancer but it is by no means the first option to be considered. The success rate of Valstar is quite low and usually used for after failure of BCG failure. I have heard that while it is available int eh United States it is not available in Canada. I had Valstar used after failure of BCG and fortunately it worked out well. As Jack mentioned, BCG is the gold standard for non muscle invasive BC

ParticipantI have to join the chorus on the side of BCG . With BC we need to take every advantage that we can and the BCG is by far the most effective treatment available to date. Find the very best Urologist on the Rock, why settle for less? Educate yourself. Knowledge goes a long way towards living with this disease. The other thing about the BCG is that while it is a live virulent bacterium it is not systemically poisoning you like chemo. I won’t tell you that this disease is an unpleasant one and periodically you have to suck in your dignity and your ego and just endure what has to be done.
You are not alone in this. Unfortunately there are a lot more of us out there. This site and the organization behind it is a great resource because so many of us on here have been there, done that and got the T-shirt. It’s also the most well-moderated site and can put you in contact with a lot of people. -
