Hi All,
Am home for a few minutes to check on the house and get some more clothes…looks like Mike won’t be coming home that soon.
The gastrographic enema (no Greg, not a garden hose but close) revealed that there is a connection between the bowel and the abscess. Bottom line (excuse the pun) is that they want to do a full colostomy. They say that without it, the abscess would just continue to fill with “poop” (their term, not mine) and eventually cause huge problems.
Well, when I got that news, I cracked, full blown tearfest. I am very worried since Mike is confused more than not and when I asked him last night if he remembered what the doctors had said, he thought they were going in to take a look. That is it.
I know he needs the surgery to save his life, but I am worried that when he wakes up with a bag, he won’t remember why.
I know they say that you are never given a burden heavier than you can carry but I’m thinking someone didn’t get the memo…I’m having a hard time carrying this.
Luckily I have you guys and great family and friends. Pretty sure we aren’t going to be able to make that BCC conference but I refuse to cancel our hotel reservation until the last possible moment.
Thanks for all the positive vibes.

Perhaps when the surgery is done and his body begins to function as it can, he will be a lot clearer and feel immensely better. In the meantime, know we are supporting you from afar.

Tell Mike he has 1,200 of us here at BCC cheering for him. Hopefully the surgery will solve this problem.
I know how stressful this is for you, but we are here for you, and only a phone call away.
All the best,

Check with the docs to find out whether the colostomy is a temporary one/ reversable. Sometimes they are, to give bowels a time to rest and heal.
We are here – melt as required!!

She was so sick and in pain so often it distressed her almost to suicide. An excellent physician and wonderful person. She too had many tests and you name it. Even she got confused. She did however on her own request a bag. She said it was the best thing she ever did. She is now comfortable and practices medicine without constant pain and suffering. Mike will be OK. And just think, Greg and I remain in a constant state of confusion. By the way, who is Greg? Say hi to Mike for me. I don;t know who I am but he might know. Good luck you guys. Things always work out, just stay on the positive side of the fence.
