Hi. My husband had his bladder cancer diagnosis a year ago. No chemo, no radiation, he ended up having a full prostatectomy a few months later.

We are very lucky and grateful that he had a cancer all-clear after that — but that doesn’t mean the major changes are easy to handle. Dealing with the urostomy bag, intimacy issues, and having the patience to realize we both have “rights to ask for things” – even though his cancer card will always trump a caregiver card. That’s us.

    Anyone else relate?

    Hi MarieL,

Yes, I can relate. My husband had his RC May 2011, followed by chemo. Thus far, all his tests have been “all clear”. But, the impact it has had on him and therefore on us, has been quite the adjustment journey.

BRAVO for bringing these issues to the forefront. I am a BC patient however I’ve been fortunate in that I have not required a RC. My wife Rhonda is my caregiver and for her it’s like giving back as she’s a lung cancer survivor and for many years she stressed on her situation. We are so grateful for her that it has been 14 years. I’m on year 1 and we pray for each to carry-on.

We’ve started to accept major changes for what they are and look for any and all the positives we have…we find putting ouselves first and above the disease has worked. Don’t let the disease take over your life…”live your life”.

    May god bless,

    Rick
