only held for 2 hours and 15 minutes. minor burning and small amount of blood twice. going rather well, no other ill effects. Dr said the one thing they really watch for is a fever.
cheers to all

I have just read your posts and I thank you. I just found out today that I will have BCG treatment. Probably starting in a few weeks. I guess I will get more information when I go for my first treatment, but in the mean time if you don’t mind I have a couple of questions.
Any tips before going for my first treatment? When should I stop drinking before? Is it important? Can I drive after the treatment or do I need to have someone with me? Are there any restrictions on travel?
thanks

Click on the link: https://forums.bladdercancercanada.org/forums/search/bcg+1st+time/
You will find numerous posts on what to expect and prep for first BCG. Btw, I found this by searching for ‘BCG first time’.
Sending you positive thoughts and well wishes.

my doctor “installed” the bcg and then let me go about my day. i got someone else to drive me the first time so i knew what to expect and then drove my self after that. i waited better than 2 hours and then “let her fly”.
of course, your doctor/urologist/ and the facility might have a different way of doing things. maybe they have a pamphlet regarding the procedure?
good luck with everything

The link above gives you a pretty good idea what to expect regarding the treatments.
All the best,

February 17, 2019 at 10:41 am #33934NightingaleKeymasterTotally agree! Believe it or not, it was not until I was in the waiting room that I started worrying about my first procedure. I was determined to maintain a positive outlook and expect a positive outcome. Having said that, we’re all different in how we handle stressful situations and I am glad to hear you accept the situation for what it is and to live your life.

Well I had my 4th injection of BCG Thursday and all went well, as others have mentioned I’ll never get used to a catheter. I do have slight ( very) cramping of my bladder and slight stinging when urinating with the urge to pee at times is urgent but never to the point of having an accident. This time I took everyone’s advice and rested Thursday and Friday. I haven’t shown any of the other symptoms noted by others here, not wanting to jinx myself I’m not even going to mention them.
I’m not sure why but the previous week I was very anxious about everything related to this journey and kept thinking the worst. Not sure why, but speaking to my best friend and my private nurse, ( MY WIFE) I went over everything trying to be as logical as possible. The doctor after the 2nd TURBT, had said he got everything and it all looked good, and the Pathology confirmed his findings and that he plans on keeping a close eye on me but he’s confident for a good outcome. So why was I feeling so scared??? Anyway as quickly as I started having those feelings I focused on the good things and got back on the right positive path. 2 more instillation’s to go then late October my scope… I think that’s the scary part, worrying that something returns and having to start this all over again. The next year I’ve come to realize is going to change some of our normal plans and going south for the Winter uninterrupted but under the circumstances it’s better than the alternative.
Good luck to everyone going through this, and again, BCC is a blessing, so glad I found you.
