Update time
The news gets weirder by the minute. The team has grown to include, Infectious Diseases, Pain Management, General Surgery, Oncology, Urology and a host of others.
Here is what I know for sure.
Mike now has a PICC line and is receiving Meropenem (antiobiotics) for his infection even though they cannot seem to actually find it anymore. The morning after the antibiotics were started, he was able to lift his leg without a problem and the swelling had gone down considerably. Leading us to believe it`s an infection.
They also altered some of the pain meds he was taking because they thought it might be some sort of interaction.
Mike`s neobladder decided to stop working on Tuesday so they put in a catheter and by Tuesday night, all was back to normal. Weird. Now no catheter and neo is working fine.
Yesterday, they did a gastrographic enema…yup, it is as fun as it sounds. They tell us there is a small leak in his bowels and General Surgery will decide what to do. I waited all day for them to tell us that but got no answer by the time I left last night.
He also had a brain MRI because his is very confused at times and their report on that was that his brain shows no sign of cancer but the brain was not quite right. Well I could have told them that 🙂 I am sure if they looked at my brain they would say the same thing. i will be pushing to see that actual report today.
Last test yesterday was a bone scan and then they injected him and he will be going back on Monday a.m. to have another type of special bone scan to see if there is infection in the bone.
If all of these tests come back clear, he is not as confused then they will send him home with the PICC and the antiobiotics will be for 2 weeks.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers everyone. And, Greg, he actually eats the food in the hospital which scares me. You would have to pay me some serious money to eat anything they are calling food. Yuck!
We are still hoping to be able to get to that BCC Conference. We have not given up hope yet.
I will update again soon.
