Hello Clarice: I am neither 85 nor a woman, but have had my bladder removed and a neobladder constructed to replace the original equipment. Enough about me!
I suggest that the best advice I ever got when I learned of my need for this surgery was to get a second opinion at a major cancer hospital by a surgeon who does this surgery every week. I expect that advice saved my life, though it did not save my bladder, However, I went into the surgery knowing that one of the best doctors at one of the best cancer centres recommended this and was confident in his ability and those of his team to do this successfully. Of course, I do not know who your doc is or what hospital you have been seen at, but that would also be my suggestion for you to consider. Hamilton is relatively close by and recommendations can be made from folks here on this site whom you might see.
It is major surgery. It can be a challenging recovery. But if the best docs are recommending it for you as the best solution, that is important in your decision. But make sure it is one of the best docs!
All the best. Keep us advised so we can support you.
