Hi Mike, I too, am a patient/survivor, and I am wondering if the excess fluid in his abdomen is due to the surgery? I had what’s called a Jackson-Pratt drain in my abdomen after my RC. It is a small tube coming out of the abdomen to drain any of the fluids that build up post surgery. My JP drain was in right after surgery and they removed it before I left the hospital (2 weeks post-op). Does your dad have one of these drains? Also, at the hospital, they suggested I follow a Low Residue diet. This meant avoiding any high fibre foods. No raw fruit or veggies, no whole grains, etc. You can ask about it at the hospital or google it. I followed that diet for about 5 weeks, gradually introducing more fibre. 2 years post-op, I still need to watch how much fibre I consume, as the intestinal tract is much more sensitive to fibre. Hope your dad is feeling better soon.
