Mike, at two weeks post radical cystectomy, he is likely many weeks from any semblance of “normal.” It’s a long process. Bowel challenges seem to be common among those of us who have an RC. Not heard of the need for suction of liquids before, but that doesn’t mean anything as I am not a uro-oncologist or any other medical professional – just a patient/survivor. Typical cause of bloating is gas in the abdomen (swallowed air and bacterial production). If the gastro tract is not efficient the gas builds up. Too much fibre can intensify it. For sure his gastro system at the intestine level has been affected by this surgery slowing everything down. In some cases patients get blockages, but if he is still in hospital that’s likely the place to find out what the cause is and fix it. If possible, walking may be a help. And eat s-l-o-w-l-y and in small portions.
All the best.
